Bartholomew Society Member Stories: Millie Reeves
A lifelong walk in service to Others...
Millie Reeves, born at the beginning of the 20th Century, had a passion for children, teachers, music and nature. As a former teacher, Girl Scout leader and Boys and Girls Club leader—she believed strongly in youth being the hope of the future.
Although she had no children of her own, Millie became a catalyst for improving the lives of others – particularly children. She funded Youth Camp, local parks, provided training for local teachers with at-risk students, and began a local music program for children in a low-income school. Her goal was to help others bloom as “beautifully as her azaleas”.
Millie came to
when she married Carl Reeves, son of the inventor Milton Reeves.
Through her legacy gifts, Millie’s generosity and vision provide an inspiration for others. She died in 1999 , unable to step into the new century. But, Millie’s lifelong walk in service to others didn’t end at her death…..her footsteps leave a trail that will last throughout the 21st century and beyond.
