Gifts from the Heart

Feel the tug of your heartstrings and help those who help others! Heritage Fund established the Gifts from the Heart program in 2005 to help agencies and organizations with funds at the community foundation. These funds have been established by agencies or individual donors to support Bartholomew County not-for-profit organizations. They provide annual support for the good work of these agencies and organizations in our community. A gift from your heart in any size will help ensure their good work forever!

Agency Endowed Funds

211/First Call for Help Finding a solution can be as easy as dialing 2-1-1 or 812-376-6666. First Call For Help 211 responded to over 10,000 calls for help in 2006 and is equipped with up-to-date information on over 1400 available programs that provide help to those in need in our community. Community School Supply Assistance registration, Holiday Assistance registration, the E-huddle listserv and various special publications are also organized by First Call For Help 211. ABC-Stewart School is a culturally and socio-economically diverse, independent school, educating children ages 2 thru 12 years. With a ratio of 11 students to 1 teacher, the school offers individualized attention in the areas of math, science, reading, language arts, geography, history, Spanish, art, music, physical education and computer technology, with high academic and behavioral expections/character development and life lessons in independent thinking, respect for others, confidence, teamwork, personal responsibility and perseverance.            www.abc-stewart.org

AgrIInstitute Leadership Institute Program offers the participants a unique opportunity to enhance their understanding and develop the expertise needed to play a leading role in public affairs issues impacting agriculture or their local community. ALP participants come from diverse roles and responsibilities closely related to agriculture, who have demonstrated strong leadership qualities in business, civic, and organizational activities. www.iali.org

The Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum is dedicated to preserving the rich history of the former Atterbury Army Air Base later renamed Bakalar Air Force Base. The museum's history spans WWII, Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War time periods. Thousands of guests visit the museum annually and many educators us it as a teaching tool for students. www.atterburybakalarairmuseum.org

Bartholomew Consolidated School Foundation Endowment Fund
The school foundation provides grant opportunities to BCSC professional staff for innovative educational programs that impact students, and maximize learning for the education system. Funding requests are review twice a year. www.bcsc.k12.in.us/sf/

Bartholomew County Historical Society
The mission of the Bartholomew County Historical Society is to collect, preserve and present the history of Bartholomew County through community involvement and active membership, ensuring the education and enjoyment of residents and guests. BCHS maintains five exhibit galleries and the Cline-Keller Library in the 1864 Victorian Italianate home. BCHS also maintains the Historic H. Breeding Farm, an example of a prosperous rural architecture, with tours and programs throughout the year. www.barthhist.com

Bartholomew County Library Associates Bartholomew County Library Associates is the "friends group" for Bartholomew County Public Library. The Library Associates raise funds through memberships and by their Annual Bargain Book Sale. Library programs that are supported by the Library Associates include summer and winter Reading Clubs, Children's Guest Author Visit, story times and crafts, and Distinguished Guest Speakers. www.barth.lib.in.us

Bartholomew County Public Library provides resources for life-long learning and enjoyment to residents of all ages. Library locations are the Main Library in downtown Columbus, Hope Branch, Bookmobile, and Talking Books Services for visually challenged readers. Services include circulating collections, programming for all ages, public computers, computer skills classes, interlibrary loan, and meeting rooms. www.barth.lib.in.us

Bartholomew County Veterans Memorial Foundation Endowment Fund The fund was established on the completion of the Veterans Memorial for the perpetual maintenance and care of the Veterans Memorial.

Bartholomew Reads Endowment Fund was established by the Heritage Fund Board of Directors to support literacy program for children and adults in Bartholomew County.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bartholomew County Developing confidence, competence and caring as life long skills contribute to positive identity and character, is a result of a one-to-one relationship with a positive volunteer Mentor/ role model. When a “match” shares time, special interests and activities, it provides opportunities to experience life beyond the backyards of the youth... Calvary Pentecostal Church Endowment Fund The fund supports the mission of the Calvary Pentecostal Church.

Center for Teaching and Learning Endowment
The Mission of the Center for Teaching and Learning is to support learners of all ages, and those who teach them. Our partners in the community include Indiana University Purdue University Columbus, Ivy Tech State College Columbus, Purdue School of Technology Columbus, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, Flatrock-Hawcreek School Corporation, area community based organizations and local businesses. The Center for Teaching & Learning is an initiative of the Community Education Coalition. The Focus of the Center for Teaching and Learning includes: Technology Integration in teaching & learning; Academic Support and Mentoring Programs to support learning; Resource Development for quality educational environments; Research & Professional Development for those who work with learners of all ages. www.columbusctl.com

Columbus Area Arts Council  The Columbus Area Arts Council provides visionary leadership in the arts. The Arts Council fosters, supports, and promotes growth in arts that educate and enrich the cultural environment of Bartholomew County and the other counties in Region 9. The Arts Council continues to offer our community free or affordable programming such as First Fridays for Families, JCB NeighborFEST!, Annual Open Iron Pour and the Anti-Freeze Performance Series. The Arts Council also conducts an annual United Arts Fund Drive which supports arts organization in Columbus, including the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Dancers Studio and the Bartholomew County Historical Society. www.artsincolumbus.org

Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Endowment Fund The award-winning Philharmonic performs seven concerts of classical and pops music, plus a free Memorial Day outdoor concert to honor area Veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces. Over 10% of the Philharmonic's budget (almost 5% more than other orchestras its budget size) is earmarked for music education and strings instruction in area schools. The Columbus Indiana Children's Choir is one example of the important education component with over 150 young people in grades four - eight singing in joyful and professional harmony. www.thecip.org

Columbus Museum of Art and Design The museum is located in The Commons. The museum features four exhibitions each year which are free to the general public. www.cmadart.org

The Columbus Park Foundation The Columbus Park Foundation was founded in 1988 to seek, receive and manage funds and resources that will assist with the quality delivery of recreation services in Columbus, Indiana. The Foundation is seeking to raise needed funds for scholarships for children in need to participate in parks and recreation fee-based activities, and for maintenance of the parks facilities and amenities, including the People Trail system, that will enhance the recreation and enjoyment for the citizens of Columbus, Indiana.

Columbus Regional Hospital Foundation Supports Healthy Communities Initiative, Volunteers in Medicine Clinic and Columbus Regional Hospital by underwriting vital, community-wide programs both inside the hospital and in the community that work to improve health and increase access to quality healthcare services for Bartholomew County residents. www.crh.org

Columbus Regional Hospital/Cancer Center A diagnosis of cancer can be stressful and life changing for both patients and their families. The Columbus Regional Hospital Cancer Care Team is committed to meeting patients' emotional, educational, and social needs as they progress through diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Gifts to the Cancer Center help underwrite innovative programs that deliver an extra margin of quality care to patients. www.crh.org

Columbus Regional Hospital/Emergency Physicians Fund Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Department and Ambulance Service provides emergency care 24 hours a day to residents of Bartholomew, Brown and surrounding counties including Jennings, Jackson, Decatur, and Johnson counties. Gifts to the Emergency Physicians Fund ensure that the Emergency Department is taking the lead in offering the most advanced equipment and technology, while providing highest quality care for patients ranging from minor illness and accidents to major trauma, heart attack and cardiac arrest. www.crh.org

Columbus Symphony Orchestra The Columbus Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1922, presents a minimum of five concerts annually. Its mission is to present quality programs for the enjoyment and education of its members and its audience. It serves volunteer musicians including young people in Columbus and surrounding communities who are dedicated to working to increase musical proficiency as individuals and as an orchestra.mypage.iu.edu/~nfay/csohome.html

Community Education Coalition Endowment: The Community Education Coalition is a partnership of education, business, and community stakeholders focused on aligning and integrating our community learning system, economic development, and quality of life. Initiatives include building of the Columbus Learning Center, support of education, nursing, business, and computer technology programs at IUPUC, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, and Purdue College of Technology. K-12 program support includes continuous improvement, curriculum improvement, and academic information systems data base development. www.educationcoalition.com

Crump Theatre Fund The Crump Theatre was built as a Victorian Theatre in 1889 and provides a venue for community groups to offer concerts and events. The theatre is managed by volunteers. www.historiccolumbusindiana.org/jscrump.htm

Developmental Services, Inc. (DSI) is a 501-C-3 not-for-profit organization that helps adults and children with developmental delays and disabilities gain their greatest level of independence and self-fulfillment. DSI provides early intervention services, family support, job training and placement, respite care, residential living opportunities, follow-along as well as many others. Because of DSI, thousands of individuals are living more independently and have become self-sufficient and contributing members of this community. www.dsiservices.org

Ecumenical Assembly of Bartholomew County Churches /Love Chapel Love Chapel provides emergency food and financial assistance to residents of Bartholomew County. An average of 500 households a month is provided with food while 200 households receive financial assistance with rent and utilities payments.
