Once upon a time, you wanted to change the world. You still can.

Overview

The Heritage Fund is the community foundation for Bartholomew County.  Founded in 1976, the Heritage Fund serves a wide variety of donors who wish to support our community and its efforts to address a range of needs. The Heritage Fund accepts charitable contributions and uses those contributions to build substantial endowment funds which are permanently invested to produce income.  The earned income is then re-invested into the community. In 2006, the Heritage Fund awarded a record setting $4.2 million in grants and scholarships to not-for-profit organizations and students.

Like most community foundations, the Heritage Fund does not provide direct services but instead awards grants from endowed funds to charities and organizations in our community that best carry out donors' interests and meet community needs.  Grants are made in the areas of civic affairs, culture, education, health and social services.

A key goal of the foundation is to preserve the assets in its permanently endowed funds so that the Heritage Fund will be able to help meet the community's charitable needs forever.

The scholarships administered by the Heritage Fund are made possible through the generosity of our donors.  Their vision enables the Heritage Fund to assist future generations in meeting their educational goals. Currently the Heritage Fund manages 66 endowed scholarship funds with fund balances of over $6.3 million.

Since the first scholarship fund was created at the Heritage Fund in 1984, over 850 local students have been assisted with more than $1,285,808 in scholarships.  In 2007, the Heritage Fund awarded $340,408 in educational scholarships from the funds that it administers.
